Introduction

The parish of Goathurst lies to the west of Bridgwater in Somerset, hidden at the foot of the Quantock Hills, access is via small country lanes and although only three miles from Bridgwater it has the appearance of an isolated rural community. The parish contains the village of Goathurst, the small hamlets of Andersfield and Huntstile and a number of scattered farms and lone dwellings.  The parish is home to the Halswell Estate, which includes the Grade I Listed House and the Grade II Registered Park and Garden, of particular note are the Temple of Harmony (managed by the Halswell Park Trust) and Robin Hoods Hut (managed by the Landmark Trust).  The parish boasts an active Village Hall and an interesting and unusual church.  More information about the parish can be found on the Quantock online website.
